We're fortuate to have an amazing community at MET-Fitness. From middle schoolers to retirees, and everyone in between, we have such a diverse and awesome group here. We've decided to share a little bit about this great group of athletes, members, and clients by regularly featuring a member of our community.
David Freeze started working on his nutrition and fitness with us 6 weeks ago. In that time he has consistently made it to 3 MET-Fit Group Trainings each week. David is always challenging himself and encouraging his fellow training partners. It is a blast to have him at group sessions and we look forward to David being a part of the MET-Fitness family for a long time to come. Below we asked David a bit about himself and his experience at MET-Fit. Check out what he had to say!
1. Tell us a little about yourself! (work, family, hobbies).
I am originally from Kansas but moved to Columbia eight years ago for nursing school and decided to just keep going with school. I have been married for just over 7 years to my beautiful wife Leah. We meet while at Kansas State. We have a daughter, Emery, who is 2 and a yellow lab, Zuri, who is 6. I just finished my nurse practitioner degree from Mizzou this past May and will transition to a NP role with hip and knee reconstruction at Missouri Orthopaedic Institute. I am discovering new hobbies post school but enjoy time with friends and learning about wine.
2. What brought you to MET-Fitness?
I was introduced to MET-Fit by David Boyd and through him got to know Mason. I went to a couple classes at the old gym but my crazy school and work schedule didn't allow me to keep going,
3. What are a few of your personal goals that you hope to accomplish here?
Overall goal is just to be healthier and develop better habits. I know I feel better, sleep better, and have overall better quality of life when I am active. Through my education as a health care provider, I know there are just so many benefits to being healthy but I know it's a struggle for many. I want to practice what I preach and influence those who are ready to make a change for the better.
4. What has been something you've enjoyed about METFitness?
I love the MET-Fit group training. It's something I can show up to and get a GREAT workout without having to think. That is a huge factor to why I keep going. There is purpose to each workout based on science and technique to maximize the benefits of each workout while minimizing the risk of injury. Through the training, I have been able to establish a new community of friends who push you and make you better.
5. Is there anything you've struggled with since joining?
The nutrition is the toughest part. Breaking old habits, and eating foods out of convenience have been the toughest. I have made some changes and I always feel better with these changes but it’s so easy to fall back into old habits.
6. Who is someone who motivates you in the gym? Do you have a fitness inspiration/motivation - if so, who?
I love Mason and Steph and both have been very encouraging as I have started this program. A quote that I see every morning is "It's not about being better than someone else but being better than you were yesterday" - unknown
7. What is a fun fact about yourself you'd like to share?
I spent 4 months in Kenya before nursing school doing some mission work/community outreach in the slums of Nairobi. It was a very eye-opening experience but I got to enjoy the beautiful country of Kenya and the wildlife there. It's hard for me to go to zoos now that I have seen the same wildlife in their natural habitat. My favorites are elephants, rhinos, and giraffes.
